SLINTGL Shines at “Sancharaka Udawa” Tourism Exhibition

The Sri Lanka Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers (SLINTGL) proudly showcased its presence at the vibrant Sancharaka Udawa tourism exhibition held at the BMICH. The event was graced by distinguished guests including Hon. President Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Hon. Minister of Tourism Mr. Vijitha Herath, and Hon. Deputy Minister Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, who took time to visit the SLINTGL stall and engage with our team.

Our stall drew an enthusiastic crowd comprising travel agents, students, and curious visitors, all eager to learn about the world of professional tour guiding. Through engaging conversations and informative displays, we highlighted the crucial role of licensed tourist guides, the dangers of illegal guiding, and SLINTGL’s ongoing mission to uplift and enrich Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated Directors, passionate members, and supportive visitors who contributed to making this event a resounding success. Together, we continue to guide the way forward for Sri Lankan tourism.    

World Federation of Tourist Guides Associations (WFTGA) Brand Ambassador visits Sri Lanka.

On December 3, 2024, Maricar Donato, the WFTGA Global Brand Ambassador, had the honor of visiting the Sri Lanka Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers (SLINTGL), a Full Member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA).

Upon arrival, Ms. Donato was received warmly with a lively and traditional festive ceremony, organized by President, Directors, and Patrons of SLINTGL The event beautifully showcased Sri Lanka’s hospitality, setting a positive tone for the day’s interactions.

The program also featured a live-streamed discussion with WFTGA President Sebastian Frankenberger, who offered his greetings and shared valuable insights with National Guide Mr. Wijeytunge (English) and Patron Mr. Ravi Munasinghe who conversed in German.

Based in Austria and established in 1987, the WFTGA is considered the ‘Home of Tourist Guide Associations’’. WFTGA encourages and supports the use of only area-specific tourist guides to member regions which keeps the local tourist guides working and ensures that visitors have accurate and professional services from our members’ regions.

A Tourist Guides is the first person of contact and at times the only representation of the local population a visitor will meet. The WGTGAs main purpose is to promote, market and ensure that Tourist Guides are duly recognized as Ambassadors of a region.

Ms. Donato’s visit marked a meaningful exchange of culture and a step forward in fostering future professional collaboration.

World Tourism Day at the iconic SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS

SLINTGL marked World Tourism Day at the historic site of Sigiriya, welcoming visitors from diverse nationalities to experience key highlights of the region. The event included an engaging cultural presentation by traditional dancers and an informative cookery demonstration. The success of this occasion was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the CGLA, CCF, and essential MNMEs of Sigiriya. This exemplary partnership highlights tourism’s potential to foster peace and understanding among communities and individuals.
